Screen Shot 2014-06-17 at 12.14.55 PMI was 24 years old. I had just finished my Bachelor Degree in Economics and was working full-time in an advertising agency.  When I wasn’t working, I was playing or rehearsing for various music projects. It was always my goal to someday manage to invert the way I spent my time. Instead of working full-time and being a part-time musician I wanted it to be the other way around. One of the answers was applying to a music school, and my first and only option was Berklee. So I applied, auditioned in Los Angeles, and 5 months later I was in Boston.

But one of my fears was: is it too late for me? How can I blend in considering my age and the age of entering students coming out of high school? Am I too old to start again? Fortunately, this was not an issue when I arrived to my first class. When it came to music, we where all interested and everyone had so much to share.

To my surprise, I wasn’t the oldest one in any of my classes, neither the only one with another academic or working background. And now that I’m working at Berklee in the Global Initiatives Office, many of my colleagues are Berklee alumni with similar stories as mine.

A couple of days ago I saw Jim Carrey at a commencement speech over at Maharishi University of Management. Something that really struck me (besides him being awesome) is that he said that you could also fail at doing something that you don’t love. Might as well risk it doing something you do love . So if you’re still wondering if it is too late to pursue your dreams, well, it’s never too late to start.
