Austin band Ume plays Berkee's 2012 SXSW Day Party
It’s SXSW time again, and in addition to Berklee’s annual Official SXSW Day Party (this year at Brush Square Park), there are dozens (hundreds?) of alumni in town playing, presenting, and promoting events through out the week as part of SXSW, RedGorilla, Texas Rock Fest, and more. Here are some of the ones we know about. We’ll be covering as many of them as we can throughout the week, here and on Twitter and Instagram (#berkleesxsw). If you know of more, add them in the comments! Continue reading →
A quick introduction – my name is Amy Mantis and I play guitar in and write songs for Canary, a five-piece rock n roll band comprised entirely of Berklee students. You can download our new EP (for free!) at www.canarytheband.com.
Last week dozens (hundreds?) of Berklee alumni, students, faculty, and staff traveled to Austin, TX to participate in the SXSW 2012 Music, Film, and Interactive Conferences. We played shows, threw parties, presented and attended panels, networked with fans and industry pros, and consumed massive amounts of barbeque. At the center of all this activity was our seventh annual Official Day Party at Friends bar on 6th Street.
The day was a huge success, featuring student and Heavy Rotation Records band Canary (above), as well as 7 different alumni acts from all around the country.
Here it is, folks – video from our 2nd annual Lucky Lounge Party, featuring Berklee student and alumni bands, and hosted by Austin alumni chapter head Sarah Sharp (shown below, with Jitterbug Vipers). More video to follow from Friends and our alumni barbeque – if you’ve got some of your own, link to it here, or send it our way! (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Berklee alum Shayna Zaid & The Catch play Berklee’s 5th Annual Party at Friends:
Fantastic time yesterday at Friends; two showcases = more work, but a ton more fun. We got to hear Ann Driscoll, Nini & Ben, and Jordan Tarrant again, plus alumni acts Audible Mainframe, The Young Republic, Love Like Fire, Shayna Zaid & The Catch, and Berkleemusic alumni band Stefan WM. The day was a huge success, with beautiful weather and a great turnout. A video of the show (including interviews with Ann Driscoll, Jordan Tarrant, The Young Republic, and HRR director Jeff Dorenfeld) and photos will be up soon at berklee.edu, and check our YouTube page for more clips from both showcases – we’ll be uploading all weekend long!
