So I finally saw the Mae Shi

Sorry to give away the punch line in the post subject. Well, first I missed them Friday; the rollerskating show didn’t list set times, and my previous engagement ran an hour late (sense a theme?). Instead I saw the raucous, rollicking Athens dec-tet Dark Meat and got covered in confetti.

Akron/Family Chills Out

Crossed one alumnus band off my list the first day: Akron/Family. Wasn’t sure what to expect. The band’s in the Devendra Banhart psych-folk community but new album Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free moves away from that a bit: tighter, more rock, less folk.
