What made you become a musician?
I was always into playing keys, but I never considered music as more than just a hobby. After graduating as a Computer Engineer & working for 2 years, I realized that it was not the life for me. I started learning basic Electronic Music Production and started playing around with MIDI controllers and sampling techniques. Every time I created something good, I would get a crazy euphoric feeling which forced me to take this up full time.

The Berklee Silent Film Orchestra plays new score to Battleship Potemkin (1925)

The Berklee Silent Film Orchestra is doing its first out-of-town performance, playing their new score to Battleship Potemkin (1925), at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. No pressure!

The 10-piece orchestra and five composer/conductors are joined by their professor and fellow Potemkin composer, Sheldon Mirowitz, a crack film projection team from the American Film Institute, and Berklee Film Scoring Chair Dan Carlin, who will introduce the performance.

Berklee College of Music on Newbury Street at Fashion Night Out Boston

It’s been 15 long years since the last time Newbury Street was closed to traffic. Last Thursday, the no parking signs were posted, the police put up their blocks and the stages, fancy cars and models poured into the street. It was an epic evening for Boston’s first Fashion Night Out.

Berklee Presents Mario Castro at the Newport Jazz Festival

For the third year in a row, Berklee has been invited to present a top student band at the Newport Jazz Festival.  The Mario Castro Quintet was chosen to represent the college on a 2011 festival lineup filled with alumni like Esperanza Spalding, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Hiromi, Avishai and Anat Cohen, to name just a few.

Berklee Presents Sierra Hull and Highway 111 at the ICA Harborwalk Sounds Concert Series

Sierra Hull, Tennesee Sweatheart and Berklee Presidential Scholar, performed for the ICA crowd last thursday. While still in College, Sierra has been performing for years, having become a master on the strings years ago.
